Description
Vráchos is the rock of the mountains the forge sits in. It takes the longest of the three: the iron is worked at high heat with narrow fullers and the peen of the hammer, driven in from every side until the block splits into ridges and hollows, then the four corners are drawn up into points around the cup. Nothing is cast or carved; every fissure is a blow.
Lit, the flame lives inside the stone and the ridges catch it from below — it is the piece people photograph. With a ball candle, the points of the rim hold the sphere like a setting holds a gem.
The surface is left as the hammer made it, waxed. Dust settles in the hollows over the years; wipe it, or leave it, as you prefer.
